Sea kayaking and boating in France

Brittany has some of Europe’s biggest tides, up to 10 m on the north coast, and fast tidal streams around the islands: the tide pages here are predicted from SHOM tide-gauge readings at the gauges (within a few minutes) and modelled from satellite data (EOT20) between them, not official SHOM predictions, so check the local tide table before crossing a passage. Bivouac is tolerated for one night on many Breton islands but not in nature reserves. In Corsica bivouac is allowed only at set sites, the Mediterranean tide is tiny, and the Strait of Bonifacio and Cap Corse are notorious for wind and steep seas.
